Romeo? Gnomeo? And Juliet?
After reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, what connections or satirized elements do you see employed within the brief clips we viewed in Gnomeo and Juliet?
Please be specific regarding the play's characters and plot elements:
Capulets, Montagues, balcony scene, Nurse, etc... This blog response is

It starts with the prologue like the play. The neighbor's are called Montague and Capulet, and their hatred for each other trickles down to their gnomes and other garden decorations. The Frog (Juliet's friend) is supposed to be the Nurse from the actual play. Tybalt is in it. Shroom resembles Mercutio. The two neighborhoods compete like the actual houses.
The nurse still played a supportive role of juliet but all the way through the movie unlike the book. The lawn mower race instead of gight. ROmeo and juliet both just have the one parent and juliet didn't have a mother. Another difference is romeo is doing lot more red hating then in the book. -Ayan
I think "Gnomeo and Juliet" is so cute. What's connected between Gnomeo and Juliet is that both come from different families who dislike each other. Both are similar and have one who likes the other. Overall they are both very similar.
It's similar in the way that Romeo and Juliet fall in love. The two families hate each other just like the real thing. In Gnomeo and Juliet, they have a race and it is really similar to the duels they have in the real Romeo and Juliet. The nurse knows about Romeo and Juliet and is supportive of her.
