"I will make you queen of everything you see,
I'll put you on the map,
I'll cure you of disease."
- Twenty One Pilots

This line shows poetry because it conveys the message of love and care to the reader, yer it is done in a way that sounds elegant and beautiful... to me that's poetry.

"If you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.." (Leann Rimes) This line is one of my favorite messages in a song because, to me, it is telling me to take risks and never be afraid, even though I may be unsure. To me, this is poetry because it has a message that may not be apparent when you first look at it, you really have to listen or think about it to get it.

"You could do it for the money, money, money
But the money makes them all the same
Everything's sunny
But the sunshine fades away

Everything's black
And white
No grey."
-The Neighbourhood, No Grey

This passage from the song represents poetry terms such as symbolism, in the way that money can't buy permanent happiness, and also presents forms of similes and metaphors, since the sun fades away just like the happiness that money brings.

"The window is open and so's that door"
I didn't know they did that anymore.

Who knew we owned a thousand salad plates!
For years I've roamed these empty halls.
Why have a ballroom with no balls,
Finally their opening up the gates!"
-For the First Time In Forever
Disney's Frozen Soundtrack

First of all, this represents rhyming, as well as analogies and excitement. The tone is very happy and ambitious.

Say something ft. Christina Aguilera

Say something, I'm giving up on you.
I'll be the one, if you want me to.
Anywhere I would've followed you.
Say something, I'm giving up on you.

This is definitely not my favorite song because of how sad and depressed it makes me feel as well as everyone who listens to this song But it's just amazing how well they portray's sadness and lonely-ness. They did such a good job on the tune and the feel of the singers because everyone does feel a big vibe listening to this song. This is just amazing poetry because it does rhyme in some parts and flows so softly and whatnot.

This is not my favorite song because of how sad and depressed it makes me feel as well as everyone else who listens to it but it is just so amazing how well they portray sadness and lonely-ness in this song. The rhythm and the singers have just such emotion and that it makes everyone feel this sad vibe. I think this is poetry because of how it does rhyme in some parts and just flows with the rest of the song. The lyrics are amazing.

"White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes"
....................................
"Slowly sinking, wasting,
Crumbling like pastries"
-"A Team" by Ed Sheeren

The first set of lyrics show imagery by saying "white lips, pale face" as I could easily paint a picture in my head. The second set of lyrics conveys a simile by using the word "like" to compare her life to crumbling pastries as it is slowly falling apart. Both of these also show rhyme and rhythm.

Double Rainbow - Katy Perry
"Was a phenomenon when you came along
Yeah, our chemistry was more than science
It was deafening, loud like lightning, it was striking
You couldn't deny it
They say one man's trash is another man's treasure
The two of us together, make everything glitter"

Here Katy is explicitly explaining how much this relationship meant to her and how different it was from the others before. She uses similes and metaphors throughout the song to explain her feelings, and that is her use of poetry.

"When you say you love me
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me
Know I need you more"
-Miley Cyrus: Adore You

This part of the song sounds like a poem, the repetition creates an emotional feeling, and can relate to the listener.

Toby Mac: get back up again.
We lose our way,
We get back up again
Never too late to get back up again,
One day, you gonna shine again,
You may be knocked down but not out forever,
Lose our way, we get back up again,
So get up, get up
You gonna shine again
It's never too late, to get back up again
You may be knocked down, but not out forever,
May be knocked down, but not out forever!

This song shares a strong message. With rhyme. the message is that no matter what knocks you down you will have the strength to get back up again..

To me, a song has always been a poem, attached with a melody. Something you not only read but you hear. You can go deeper into knowing what the author is talking about. Like poems, songs tend to rhyme. It's a rule to writing a song. So within the terms we've learned I'm using the term Rhyme.

"I'm taking over my body, back in control, no more shotty,
I bet a lot of me was lost, 't's uncrossed and 'I's undotted,
I fought it a lot and it seems a lot like flesh is all I got,
Not anymore, flesh out the door, swat,
I must've forgot, you can't trust me,
I'm open a moment and close when you show it,
Before you know it I'm lost at sea,
And now that I write and think about it,
And the story unfolds,
You should take my life, you should take my soul.

You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Sounding down the mountain range of my left-side brain,
You are surrounding all my surroundings,
Twisting the kaleidoscope behind both of my eyes."

It may not be that every lyric rhymes completely, but this song gets pretty close to that.

Song: Holding onto you

1. "And diamonds, diamonds shine like you."
-Austra, Shoot the Water
2. "Silence, silence speaks for you."
-Austra, Shoot the Water

1. The simile of comparing diamonds shine to the person of interest.

2. The metaphor is saying that silence is speaking for the person even though there is no sound and no words being spoken by them.

I'm friends with the monster
That's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
You're trying to save me
Stop holding your breath
And you think I'm crazy
Yeah, you think I'm crazy (crazy)

These lines portrays poetry because it is very explanatory. When she sings how the voices are inside of her head it also portrays imagery because we can picture how there are people talking to her in her head.

"I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter" ~ In the End by Linkin Park
This song is poetry because it talks about how hard he tried to get to his goal, but how he failed and it just doesn't matter anymore.

"And if you're in love, then you are the lucky ones, 'cause most of us are bitter over someone"
Youth by Daughter
This song or this part in the song is poetic because quiet a few people are brought down by someone that they love and that may not love them in return.

"You and I
We don't wanna be like them
We can make it till the end
Nothing can come between you and I
Not even the Gods above can separate the two of us
No nothing can come between you and I"
Song: You & I
Artist: One Direction

I think this symbolizes Allegory because the song lyric has a meaning behind it saying no matter what you are going through, that special person will never fade away during difficult times.

"What I want you've got
And it might be hard to handle
Like the flame that burns the candle..." You Make My Dreams -Hall and Oats This verse has a simile in it, which helps the reader connect two things at once.

"I'm never what I like
I'm double-sided.
And I just can't hide
I kinda like it
When I make you cry
Cause I'm twisted up, I'm twisted up, inside."

This line displays poetry because it has a deeper meaning and makes people really contemplate and think. I believe this is extremely relatable to almost everyone.

"Like ships in the night
You keep passing my by" -Mat Kearney
It's like poetry because in this song Mat Kearney compares him and his girlfriends love to ships in the night, so it's a simile.

My favorite song lyric is "Now I'm a Warrior" in Warrior by Demi Lovato. This is a metaphor because she is referring herself to a warrior but she isn't using like or as.

"You're the lullaby
That's singing me to sleep
You are the other half
You're like a missing piece"

Song: Northern Wind
Artist: City and Colour

This song is literally all personification and metaphorical lyric. Plus it has rhythm and rhyme.

P.S. I love this song.

Breezeblocks By Alt-j
Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go

This song has the rhyme that means basically that a fear has taken over the persons entire body. It also uses personification taking the word fear and having it grip the person.FOR ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE READING THIS AFTER I POST IT: I LOVE THIS SONG AND LISTEN TO IT MILLIONS OF TIMES A DAY AND WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND IT IF YOU LOVE ALTERNATIVE MUSIC.

Katy perry's Firework
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep six feet under?
Screams but no one seems to hear a thing

This song uses similes to relate to the person that is listening to this song. It is expressing stuff like when plastic bags float through the wind its basically saying You are the plastic bag and you are just floating through life

Who will love me for me
Not for what I have done
Or what I will become
Who will love me for me
'Cause nobody has shown me what love
What love really means
JJ Heller What Love Really Means

This is poetic because it has a very deep meaning and a lot of symbolism and the song is very important to me.

"We were meant to be, but a twist of fate made it so we had to walk away"
-Happily, One Direction

This line shows poetry because of the way it makes it seem like fate is a person that tore them apart(personification), also its tone is sad and a little bit desperate.

"you just gotta ignite the light and let it shine just own the night like the fourth of July" -katy perry firework
This part of the song is like a simile poem because it is using the work like which is comparing two things together.

"The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded h***" -It's Time by Imagine Dragons.

This shows symbolization because to get to heaven you have to be willing to take risks to do the right thing and stand up for yourself, your friends and family, and your beliefs. I think this is a very inspirational song and when you really listen to the lyrics, you get an uplifting encouragement from this song.

"And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
When sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight"
-Goo Goo Dolls

These lyrics shows poetry due to the fact that it shows so much emotion through lyrics where you have to think about what depressing situation the artist is going through just like authors with poetry. The situation could be they lost a loved one to death or a really emotional breakup. When listening to the lyrics it hits a soft on the reader/listeners heart.
Which is what the point of poetry is the knowledge of how to decipher the writing.
