I have an older song (about 2 years)
its by Jimmy Eat World
Song: The Middle
Artist: duh- Jimmy Eat World

It just takes some time, little girl in the middle of the ride (over, and over)
Everything, everything will be just fine (over, and over) Everything, everything it'll be alright (alright)

I chose the chorus- because poetry wise it talks about how life is a roller caoster and if you just last through your trials in life you will pull through and everything will be alright (alright) :P

Title: Across the Universe
Artist: The Beatles
(also in the motion picture Across the Universe)

"Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe"

It exhibits a lot of poem terms from class. It contains similes, a metaphor, blank verse, free verse, and imagery.

I love the image that this part paints. I think it is also talking about life itself. The million eyes that call him across the universe are like friends and family that call you onward throughout life, even to different places of this world.
It then talks about how toughts meander and tumble blindley. We don't know where our ideas take us, we just go with the flow. We're all just making our way "across the universe".

Artist: Lost Prophets
Song: Last Train Home

But there's still tomorrow
Forget the sorrow
And I can be on the last train home

Watch it pass the day
As it fades away
No more time to care
No more time, today

But we sing
If we're going nowhere
Yeah we sing
If it's not enough
And we sing
Sing without a reason

This song is a lyric poem it connects to who ever is listening to it. The Song is basically saying that even if your day is almost over and it is seeming to be one of those days that you feel sad you can always change that and be on the "Last Train Home".

Artist: Puff Daddy - Faith Evans - 112
Album: No Way Out
Song: I'll Be Missing You

Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I laced the track, you locked the flow
So far from hangin' on the block for dough
Notorious they got to know that
Life ain't always what it seem to be
Words can't express what you mean to me
Even though you're gone we still a team
Thru your family I'll fulfill your dreams
In the future can't wait to see if you'll
Open up the gates for me
Reminisce sometime the night they took my friend
Try to black it out, but it plays again
When it's real feelings hard to conceal
Can't imagine all the pain I feel
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

Chorus:

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

(We miss you, Big....)

It's kinda hard wit you not around
Know you in Heaven smilin' down
Watching us while we pray for you
Everyday we pray for you
Till the day we meet again
In my heart is where I keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts, Big, I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us and the six shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me takin' flics
Makin' hits, stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

this song exhibits an elegy becuase it is a song of mourning and Puff Daddy is singing it to his best friend Notorious Big how died.
it is also a ballard becuase they are rhyms that are sung. it also has rythm to the song.

Artist: The Beatles
Song:I'm Only Sleeping

When I wake up early in the morning
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float upstream

Please don't wake me
No don't shake me
Leave me where I am
I'm only sleeping

Everybody seems to think I'm lazy
I don't mind, I think they're crazy
Running everywhere at such a speed
Till they find there's no need

Please don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only sleeping

Keeping an eye on the world going by my window
Taking my time

Lying there and staring at the ceiling
Waiting for that sleepy feeling

This song/poem is about how the world is moving too fast and that everyone should enjoy the moments we have and relax.

"We are the boxers in the ring
We are the bells that never sing
There is a title we can't win no matter
How hard we might swing"

Lryics From The Last Goodnight
Song: Pictures of You

This part of the song shows a good example of the poetic term a metaphor. They comparing themselves to being like boxers in a ring, like they are having a fight or disagreeing on something. Or the bells that never sing is seems to have a bit of irony to it. For bells when rang make a sound but they don't it is lie opposite on what bell really do. It has some rhyme like ring and sing that adds flow to the song.

Title: Im so Hood Remix
Artist:Dj Khaled ft. Ludacris, Young Jeezy, T-Pain ect.

"So put a fist in the air, if you care that United we stand, divided we fall."

I chose this part of the song because,

This is an allegory because its symbol of an abstract meaning.
This is an illusion because it has a casual refrence to a big issue.
This song is also Rythmic.

Song: Welcome To Jamrock
Artist: Damian Marley

"Some boy noy notice, them only come around like tourist
On the beach with a few club sodas
Bedtime stories, and pose like dem name Chuck Norris"

I chose this song because it has two great examples of similes. One of them compares 'some boy' to a tourist, and the other compares telling bedtime stories to Chuck Norris.

Title: No One
Artist: Alicia Keys

I just want you close
Where you can stay forever
You can be sure
That it will only get better

You and me together
Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cuz
Everything's going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all i know is everything's going to be alright

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you
Can get in the way of what I feel for you

When the rain is pouring down
And my heart is hurting
You will always be around
This I know for certain

You and me together

Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cuz
Everything's going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all i know is everything's going to be alright

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you
Can get in the way of what I feel

I know some people search the world
To find something like what we have
I know people will try try to divide something so real
So til the end of time I'm telling you there is no one

No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I'm feeling
No one, no one, no one
Can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you

oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh

This is a good song and it relates to our class and what we have studied in many ways. This is a very rhythmic song and there is an allegory present because the song has many hidden meanings that you have to search to find.
Also, this song is very easily related to and creates images in your mind using imagery and other poetic techniques.
This is a great song that should inspire everone :D

Title:Where is the love?
Artist: Black Eyed Peas

"Whats wrong with the world mama? people livin' like they ain't got no mama
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'

In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love?"

Really in this song, you can chose any part of the song and you've got poetry. In the second paragraph, the first sentence, they use the poetic term of catalog. Also in this song, the Black Eyed Peas use song writting to send a specific message to our world about our world, Where is the love?

artists: Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill
song: i need you
"Like a needle needs a vein

Like my uncle Joe in Oklahoma
needs a rain

I need you

Like a lighthouse on a coast

Like the father and the son need the Holy Ghost

I need you, OOH I need you"

So far this year we have learned many new poetic terms and how to be able to locate them while reading/ annotating poems and in this case songs. in this popular country song you can point out a fue of these terms in the chorus.
some examples are:
*ballad
*consonance
*blank verse
*cadance
*figure of speech
*internal rhym
just to name a couple!!

Song: The Last Night
Artist: Skillet

You come to me with scars on your wrist
You tell me this will be the last night feeling like this
I just came to say goodbye
I didn't want you to see me cry, I'm fine
But I know it's a lie.

I won't let you say goodbye,
I'll be your reason why.

This is a good example of a song with poetry in it. It shows rhyming in the words. I thought this created a picture in your mind as well. Also, this song can apply to many people (not me) and typically somehow a poem connects to life. And sometimes poems connect to something sad, I think this verse is sad but meaningful.

Song: Go Getta
Artist: Young Jeezy

"We Live Life On The Edge Like Theres No Tomorrow-
They Grind Hard Like Theres No Today-
They Do The Same Stuff Like Its Yesterday-
The Game Never Stop So Who's Next To Play?-
Against All Odds You Can Place Your Bets-
Yea I'm Just Getting Started So I Ain't Done Yet-
Risk It All You Can Lose your Life-
What Else Can I Say Thats A Hell Of A Price-
I Don't Under Cause I Overstand-
No Time For Mistakes So I'm Overplaying-
I'm In The Club Like What?-
4 5 Wit Me-
And Imma Stay Thuggin Till The Feds Come Get Me-"

I chose this song because it has many rhymes. It also has similies and a few caesuras in the verses. The theme and tone is evident in the song as well. This song demonstrates many poetic devices so it's a good example.

this poetry reminds me of my parents watching me grew as a human being but also is written in a stalkerish form but `either way its radical!

Song: Follow Me
Artist: Uncle Kracker

You don't know how you met me
You don't know why
You can't turn around and say goodbye
All you know is when I'm with you
I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea
I'm singing

CHORUS

Follow me everything is alright
I'll be the one to tuck you in at night
And if you
Want to leave I can guarantee
You won't find nobody else like me

I'm not worried bout the ring you wear
Cuz as long as no one knows then nobody can care
You're feeling guilty and I'm well aware
But you don't look ashamed and baby I'm not scared
I'm singing

REPEAT CHORUS

Won't give you money
I can't give you the sky
Your better off if you don't ask why
I'm not the reason that you go astray and
We'll be all right if you don't ask me stay

REPEAT CHORUS

You don't know how you met me
You don't know why
You can't turn around and say goodbye
All you know is when I'm with you
I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea
I'm singing

REPEAT CHORUS

this song shows a reoccuring simile when it says 'swim through your veins like a fish in the sea'
