Mercutio's Proclamation?

In Act III.i.113-115, Mercutio proclaims that, "... A plague o' both your houses!/ They have made worms' meat of me. I have it,/ And soundly too. Your houses!" What is he suggesting? Is it more than a dying observation? What is your understanding of the lines and its recitation in Act III?

I think that Mercutio is saying that there should be a terrible thing that goes to both their houses since their houses where pretty much the reason that he got hurt and in the end died. Plagues are bad desises and they take alot of lives and no one wants them so ya. And I guess that worms meat is like a fool or someone who has been ruined so he just saying that they having their problems have made him a fool. But I really dont get what he is trying to say, I dont understand them very well i guess.

This may be his conscience speaking out in his dying breath. He may know that really he is dying because of the feud, the stupid feud. He was not even part of it but, in yet he dies because of it.I would say that he is saying plagues because this is spreading to everyone, not just the two families that are feuding, such as him. He might be also saying, this will come back to haunt you. It may be insanity but it may also be the truth and foreshadowing. It was kind of hard to understand the Act III because of some of the words but overall i got the message. Mercutio can be crazy and funny but he can also be very serious and say word of wisdom, even in his last breaths.

Mercutio is comparing the families feud to a plague, the feud is infecting those who get involved in it. The feud made Mercutio a fool, and now he thinks hes dying from it.

Mercutio appears to be ranting in his last moments and therefore to be nothing. But in truth he is talking about how this fued between the Capulets and Montegues aren't just killing members of each family but of those who are involved, hence his death. He uses the word plagues as an analogy, saying that, like plagues, their hatred and killing is spreading. I understood the gist of what he was talking about...I cant really translate all of the shakesperean. ^_^

Mercutio is admitting that the fued is the reason for his death. He is also comparing it to a plague in the sense that it is spreading to lots of families. For example it is now not just affecting the fueding families, the Montagues and Capulets, but other people too, which is the reason for his death. Also he is saying that the fued has made him a fool.

Mercutio, dying from a fight between something he personally was never apart of is upset with the two families. That because of the both of them not just Tybalt, he will die. They asa team have build something horrific; murder of an innocent or someone who wasn't meant to.

i think that mercutio is saying this because he is going to die because of the fights between those two houses.

Mercutio is suggesting that they are fighting over nothing and that they need realize that their stupid fight caused his death.

Mercucio is trying to point out to them, that they are fighting over a stupid situation that can be settled in other ways, and also its like a plauge because its spreading through everyone, not just Romeo and Juliet, but Tybalt, and Mercucio. Their friends are literally dieing for their love. They have made him get involved with the situation, and he got involved a little too much because he ended up dieing.

Mercutio is suggesting that the feud between the families has gone too far. He wasn’t even directly apart of the feud, yet it took his life. He is proposing that the feud is spreading like a plague and might cause more fatalities to more people who aren’t even involved in the fight.

This is the reason why Mercutio has died because he said A plague o'both your houses. So he this is the exact reason why he happend to die. Cuz Romeo and Tybalt are cousins now since Romeo has married young juliet. mAybe Mercutio was struggling with something who know's.

Mercutio is proclaiming that because of the feud of both the houses it has taken his life. And perhaps if the feud had not been going on, his life would not have been taken. He believes that the fight was stupid and should have been stopped long ago. When Mercutio says a plague o' both your houses, i think that he means that there will be more death to follow if the feud goes on. If the feud continues the lose of human life will continue and not just Mercutio will be lost. Not untill the fighting stops will there be peace in both the houses and society.

Mercutio is saying that the reason for his death is because the two families have no desire to settle their problems and prefer to fight over it. He is also saying that it is contageous and has spread to the towns people. He is saying that because of them, he is now dying and there is no hope because they cant settle their differences.

Mercutio said there should be revenge for his death on both Montague and Capulet families because it was their timeless fued that killed him. he also hoped that something as serious as death would shock the houses back to reality, but it only does that after four main characters die(Mercutio, Tybalt, Romeo, and Juliet.)

Mercutio is saying there should be revenge on both families because it's there fault he is dieing. When he says a plague on both your houses I think he is saying a disesase is going to spread because of what they have done.

I'm under the impression that Mercutio is saying that, because Romeo handt done anything to help him, or chose a sida at all, he died, and there for both tybalt and Romeo will sufer for what they have done. tybalt for killing him out of hate, and Romeo for letting it slip by/ let it happen (even tho he wasnt really aware of it). he wants justice upon both of them.

I think that Mercutio is saying that he hopes something bad would happen to both houses (the Capulets and the Montagues) so they can pay to what happened to him. He is pretty much saying his death was because of the two houses petty disputes.

I think Mercutio is saying that he is dying because of the fued between the Montegues and the Capulets. He is also saying that the fued doesn't only involve the familes, but the friends around them! He is mad and angry about the fued and makes sure that they all know he is dying because of the fued.

I think its a way of telling romeo and benvolio that they are being egotistical and not helping him even if he was faking. Also its not all benvolio and romeo's fault becase mercutio jokes around way to much

Sharon S. said...

I believe that Mercuito is saying that it is both their fault of the death of him or him dying. Mercuito is mad because he is dying and that his friends are watching him die and not doing anything about it.

Mercutio says these things because the two feuding families is the cause of his death. I also think that he is sort of foreshadowing the future by saying that if they don't stop fighting now others will die because of them.
